THE CHALLENGES
America’s promise has always been that it is the land of opportunity for all regardless of wealth and privilege. Here in New York, we’re failing to live up to America’s promise of an equal opportunity – by failing to provide a quality education for all our children.
The facts are startling.
- New York ranks 41st nationally in high school graduation rates.
- One-third of New York’s children do not graduate from high school on time.
- Half of those who do graduate are not adequately prepared for college or meaningful employment.
We can – and must – do better. |

THE SOLUTIONS
Excellent solutions to our education challenges exist. They form the core of Education Voters of New York’s agenda:
- Give every child in New York a fair start with universal access to pre-K
- Ensure access for all to a meaningful high school education
- Staff all schools with effective teachers who are well supported by strong school leaders
- Increase admission to and affordability of post-secondary education – so our young people are prepared for work in the 21st Century economy
- Fix New York’s broken school funding formula so that it is fair, equitable and transparent – and immune from economic swings
