Education Voters of New York Announces Selection of Glynda Carr as Executive Director
New York- Today Education Voters of New York, an advocacy group dedicated to engaging voters in the fight for quality public education for every child, announced the appointment of Glynda Carr to the position of Executive Director.
In 2006, Education Voters of New York’s political arm- New York ED PAC- raised and spent nearly $500,000 in the State Senate race to defeat Republican incumbent Nicholas Spano, and more recently, spent $250,000 in a Special Election to help elect Long Island’s only Democratic State Senator, Craig Johnson. During the 2006 state budget debate, Ed Voters ran a public education campaign in several legislative districts to highlight legislators’ roles in delaying compliance with the court order to dramatically increase funding for New York’s public schools.
For the past six years, Carr was Chief of Staff to State Senator Kevin Parker of Brooklyn, and managed his 2006 re-election campaign. In her new role, Carr will be responsible for strategic planning, fund development, and identifying legislative and policy goals to improve public schools in New York. “Education Voters of New York proved that it’s a force to be reckoned with first in the 2006 budget battle, and later in three high priority state senate races. We’ve devoted the resources to educating voters about where their elected officials stand when it comes to public schools. I’m looking forward to building on these victories and continuing the fight to improve public education in New York State,” stated Carr.
Prior to her work with Senator Parker, Carr served as the National Director of Programs for the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund and Senior Manager for Corporate Relations for New York Blood Center. She has also worked for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America on the local, state and national level developing volunteer recruitment strategies, diversity programs and corporate partnership initiatives.
