Winter / Spring 2008: What Comes Next

New York State demands equitable public school funding.

Winning an historic increase in school funding is the first step towards creating excellence in education. This is only the beginning of the struggle to turn New York public schools into world class institutions. NY EdPAC will push for accountability measures to ensure that money is spent where it is needed most. By having a clear contract that articulates how money is allocated and on which programs, parents and advocates stay on top of spending decisions and urge necessary changes or adjustments.

The previous year’s budget was the first of what is to be a four year massive increase in education spending. NY EdPAC will continue to hold our elected State Senators and Assembly Members responsible for making sure New York children do not get short changed on this next phase of funding public schools. Additionally, NY EdPAC will hold the legislature responsible for defining a fair school funding formula that ensures the increased dollar amount is an ongoing commitment to creating quality public schools for every child throughout the state. NY EdPAC will continue to:

  • Organize citizen activists to demand that elected officials provide the funding and policies necessary to ensure every child receives an excellent education.
  • Advocate for progressive education policy and fair funding — and support that advocacy through organized issue campaigns.
  • Endorse candidates who support proven solutions for all our public schools.
  • Run independent expenditure election campaigns on behalf of pro-public education candidates and against those who do not support our schools.
