On Wednesday, January 7th, the New York State Senate elected Malcolm A. Smith as their leader, giving the Democrats control of the Senate for the first time in over 40 years. NYEdPAC, the political arm of Education Voters of New York, played a critical role in challenging the seats of Senators who blocked equitable education funding and meaningful public school reform. Those efforts helped give Senator Smith the margin he needed to become elected Majority Leader. Smith has been a friend to Education Voters and has pledged to make education a priority of his administration. We look forward to working with him to ensure that every New York child receive an excellent education.
